Rhodri Continues Fight for Dental Services

Local Assembly Member Rhodri Glyn Thomas is continuing his campaign to ensure that Dental Services are brought back to the Newcastle Emlyn area.  In a question to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Health and Social Services this week, Mr. Thomas noted that assurances were previously given that a service would be in place by the end of October 2010, and that as we approach the end of November no such service has been established.  In response, Health Minister Edwina Hart noted Mr. Thomas’ countless endeavours in bringing the issue to her attention and hoped the service would be in place by February 2011.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:

“I have made a series of representations to the Health Minister and to the Chief Executive of the Health Board regarding the lack of NHS Dental services in the Newcastle Emlyn area.  I am pleased the Minister recognises the number of times I have brought it to her attention.

“I had been given assurances by the Minister that provision would be in place by the end of October, but as we approach the end of November it appeared that we were no further ahead.

“I welcome the steps taken by the Health Board to return these services.  I am encouraged that a full tendering exercise has taken place and the preferred provider is negotiating a suitable rental rate for the dental surgery.

“The Minister has said she hopes services will be in place by February 2011.  I sincerely hope that anything which can be done by the Health Board and/or the preferred provider to start the service sooner than February is done as these services cannot come soon enough”
