Equal Pay Claims Could Cost Council Millions

Carmarthen County Council Social Services are facing a legal challenge in the wake of its privatisation plans. The decision to privatise the care services in the county, motivated with the intention of saving money, could in fact cost the council after it trigged a potential legal battle over equal pay claims.

Local Assembly Member Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:

"The care workers have held back on legitimate equal pay claims but Carmarthenshire County Council now faces Employment Tribunal applications following proposals to privatise the health care services."

Adam Price MP added:

"Many in the county fear for the quality of the service if private companies are given the task of running our care services. If Carmarthenshire County Council continue with this course of action it will lead to strong opposition from care workers, residents and unions. It will also face a financially crippling legal challenge from care workers seeking a resolution to their equal pay claims."
