Plaid AM takes dental concerns to Minister
Plaid's Chair of the Assembly's Health and Social Services Committee has once again brought the issue of orthodontic treatment to the attention of Brian Gibbons. Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM has raised his concerns after meeting Carmarthenshire orthodontists.
Mr Thomas said:
"After a very interesting and productive meeting with leading orthodontists I have raised a number of issues with the Minister. I felt it appropriate to write to the Minister to issue my concerns and the concerns expressed by those in the dental field."
Mr Thomas added:
"There were a number of questions raised at the meeting regarding the provision of this service. One of the main concerns was for young people who would be eligible for free treatment who could be over the age of 18 and ineligible for free treatment by the time they can be seen. There are some practices that have the capacity to provide treatment and have waiting lists but because of the way the system is funded are not able to work beyond a certain threshold. These are issues that need to be addressed."
