Plaid raise neurosurgery concerns with Health Commission Wales Director

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr's elected members have written to the Director of Corporate Services at the Health Commission Wales to express their concerns at proposals to move Neurosurgery facilities from Swansea to Cardiff. Adam Price MP and Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM felt it important to take up their concerns direct to the Commission before the project board meeting (17/11/06) to discuss the plans.

Mr Price said:

"I wrote to the Director to express our opposition to the plans. Moving neurosurgery to Cardiff will not only inconvenience my constituents with increased travelling but also put the welfare of those in need of treatment at risk."

Mr Thomas added:

"It would be a huge blow for the people of Carmarthenshire if neurosurgery, especially in emergency situations was relocated to Cardiff. The ability to treat head injuries quickly is essential. Moving the neurosurgery to Cardiff will increase travelling times and limit the chances of successful treatment."
