Unison meeting brings fears that care service staff are being "squeezed" out
Plaid's Assembly Member and Council Leader have met with Unison representatives to discuss the concerning proposals put forward by Carmarthenshire County Council to privatise the home care services. Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Cllr Neil Baker met with the union officials to discuss concerns raised by union members and constituents.
Mr Thomas said:
"One of the main issues that came out of the meeting is the fear that staff are already losing hours to independent contractors. As new contracts are coming into the system current staff members are losing hours to independent companies that can not offer the same rapport with their clients that our very highly trained and motivated staff currently do. "
Mr Thomas added:
"It is important that staff receive assurances that they will not be losing hours to the private sector. We have been advised that there would be a phasing out of public services with contracts being awarded to private companies as existing staff members left the service, yet we have been contacted by care workers who have already seen their hours decrease. We would like to know where those hours have gone."
