Cut the admin and use the funding - Plaid AM

Plaid's local Assembly Member has welcomed the European Union funding that will be invested into West Wales but has warned against centralisation that could lead to overburdening bureaucracy affecting the way in which it is spent. Rhodri Glyn Thomas, a member of the European and External Affairs Committee at the National Assembly, was speaking following an announcement that £1.32bn of Euro-cash was heading for Wales.

Mr Thomas said:

"I was in Brussels earlier in the year and was eager to ensure that Carmarthenshire secured the best possible funding from the European Union. The funding is great news but unlike with the previous seven years where administration has hampered the way in which it has been implemented, it is important that the money is put the best possible use."

Mr Thomas added:

"The fact that this funding has been made available is a clear sign of the Governments failure to raise the Welsh GDP with previous investments. It's vital that this money is distributed evenly throughout the region benefiting West Wales as well as the Valleys. It is important that the European funding is used efficiently in a way that will have long lasting effects that will benefit Carmarthenshire and Wales beyond the initial outlay."
