Privatisation fears must be addressed - Plaid
Plaid AM challenges Kevin Madge to clarify position over privatisation proposals.
Local politician Rhodri Glyn Thomas has called on Kevin Madge to confirm his stance on proposals to tender out home care contracts to independent companies. The Plaid AM was speaking after a joint review proposed increasing the number of independent contracts from 20% to 80%.
Mr Thomas said:
"I have met with constituents working in the home care service who are very concerned about these proposals. I will be speaking to Unison and other workers to address their concerns. There will be serious questions raised regarding the quality of service and working conditions if these services are privatised. I find it astonishing that a Labour Council would preside over privatisation reforms and I call on Kevin Madge, as executive board member with responsibility for Social Services, to confirm his position on this matter."
