Tax Credits hardships unacceptable - Plaid
Constituents being penalised because of administrational errors.
Carmarthen East and Dinefwr's elected members have spoken out at the tax credit problems that are leaving numerous constituents with mounting financial problems. Adam Price and Rhodri Glyn Thomas have spoken out after a number of constituents have contacted them after receiving demands to repay money following administrational errors.
Mr Thomas said:
"Many of my constituents have contacted me after being told they are required to repay large amounts of money. Overpayments are the result of unacceptable levels of official error or, a failure to act on information provided when people report a change of circumstance affecting their entitlement."
Mr Price added:
"Challenging the recovery of overpayments must be made easier and a statutory right of appeal needs to be introduced. It is unfair that due to administration errors my constituents are faced with financial difficulty. It is through no fault of their own that they are being overpaid, and recovery of the money must be delayed until a right to appeal is allowed and notification of the reasons for overpayments is given."
