Withdrawal of service is another cost cutting measure - Plaid
Plaid Cymru's elected members for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr have attacked the council for further cut backs to services in the county. Adam Price and Rhodri Glyn Thomas have branded the councils decision to withdraw the door to door rent collection service for council homes as a cost cutting measure that will affect many constituents.
Mr Price said:
"The decision to phase out this service will affect a number of my constituents. For the period of 2005/2006 there were 2300 tenants involved in the scheme and currently 1600 tenants are still reliant on this payment process. I have written to Robin Staines, head of housing services at Carmarthen County Council, to ask him to outline what alternatives this leaves my constituents in view of the fact this essential service is being withdrawn."
Mr Thomas added:
"To phase out this process of payment would lead to a large number of people having to find a different ways of making their payments. To abolish this way of payment would cause a great deal of inconvenience and concern for my constituents. Following on from the recent announcements that the people of Carmarthenshire will no longer be able to pay their council tax at the post office, it seems as if once again the people of this county are suffering due to cost cutting measures."
