Plaid AM congratulates Carmarthen Town FC but calls for more investment

Plaid Cymru's Assembly Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr has congratulated Carmarthen Town FC after the club were granted a Uefa license to compete in European football competition. Rhodri Glyn Thomas was delighted that Carmarthen Town would once again be allowed the opportunity to represent the county on the European stage.

Mr Thomas said:

"Last season Carmarthen Town had some fantastic results in European competition and it really gave a boost to the county. I am delighted that they will have the opportunity to do that once again. Although the club has gained the right to play in Europe they are still battling to be able to play at their home in Parc Waun Dew and that is something that needs to be addressed. Carmarthen urgently needs funding to bring its ground up to UEFA standards. The club's progress deserves support from the Welsh FA and the Welsh Assembly Government."

Carmarthen Town FC Chairman Jeff Thomas added:

"It's a big boost for us to get the Uefa license but we are still unable to play at our home ground. We have currently invested £400,000 into improvements but are still looking to find the £200,000 to complete the necessary development. Football clubs in Wales are loosing out, and football in Wales is loosing out."
