Plaid Cymru speak out over police reforms
Carmarthen East and Dinefwr elected members has criticised Charles Clarke for trying to force through his proposals for an all Wales Police force. Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Adam Price MP have called for Mr Clarke to pay attention to what the people of Wales want.
Mr Thomas said:
"With all four police authorities rejecting these proposals it is clear that the restructuring proposed by the Labour Government is not acceptable to those policing on the front line in Wales. How can the Labour Government claim to represent the Welsh people when these proposals have been continually opposed by the people and police of Wales?"
Mr Price added:
"All four Police authorities are concerned about the speed of these changes, the impact it would have on community policing and funding. It is apparent that after reviewing the proposals the four police forces have concluded that the restructuring is not a viable option. Wales should not be the guinea pig for Charles Clarke's radical reforms."
