Politican’s concern at loss of Police Helicopter
Following the proposal of a National Police Air Service put forward by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) local politicians Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and Jonathan Edwards MP have expressed further concerns for crime prevention and detection in Carmarthenshire as Dyfed Powys police looks set to loose its helicopter in efforts to save £15million.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:
“The loss of this important service will cause a great deal of concern in the county. In such a rural area as Carmarthenshire, very often getting to emergency calls can not be done quick enough by road. That is why a helicopter service is so important. Dyfed Powys Police do a fantastic job for the area but it is difficult to expect them to continue that with their hands being tied by these drastic cuts by the Conservative – Lib Dem coalition in Westminster. I am deeply concerned that the loss of this vital provision could just be the start of things to come.”
