Plaid Assembly Members meet with Palestinian Ambassador

Plaid Cymru Assembly Members were on hand to greet Professor Manuel Hassassian, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK, during his visit to the National Assembly this week (Tuesday, 6th of December).

Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM welcomed Professor Hassassian and held a discussion with Assembly Members. Members of the Plaid group were updated on the latest situation in the Occupied Territories, including the ongoing expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank, and the Palestinian campaign for international recognition at the United Nations and other world bodies.

The ambassador expressed his hope that Plaid Cymru and other political parties in Europe can help raise awareness and develop friendly relations with the Palestinians. His itinerary will now take him to other nations in the next few weeks including Scotland and the United States.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:

“Having visited Palestine, I was pleased to welcome the ambassador to the National Assembly to give our Assembly Members a briefing on the current situation in his country. Plaid Cymru agreed at its most recent Conference to support the full international recognition for the Palestinian State. The campaign for recognition of Palestine’s existence is now gaining a higher profile, including the recent decisions of both Unesco and Iceland , and in Wales we will do what we can to support that campaign.”
