Plaid AM goes Red….for World Blood Donor Day

Local Assembly Member Rhodri Glyn Thomas accompanied by fellow Plaid AM and former Mayor of Carmrathen, Llyr Huws Griffiths, helped Paint the World Red in this year’s World Blood Donor Day.

To help raise awareness of regular blood donation the World Health Organisation called upon blood services across the globe to help ‘Paint the World Red’.

The Plaid Cymru AMs joined the Welsh Blood Service’s campaign to help encourage more donors in Wales.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:

“I’m very pleased to have taken part in World Blood Donor Day and to help raise awareness of the importance of giving blood.

“Many people give that life-saving gift knowing that ten minutes of their time can make a big difference to people’s lives.

“The Welsh Blood Service needs to collect approximately 400 donations per day to supply hospitals in Wales.  The value of giving blood cannot be underestimated.

“The Blood Service will be visiting different parts of Carmarthenshire no less than six times in the next five weeks and no appointment is needed.

“I hope residents throughout the county will join me in giving blood and be one of the many volunteers that help save lives.”
