Local AM welcomes Guest House Gold Awards

Carmarthen East & Dinefwr AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas has congratulated three local guest houses on winning Visit Wales’ Gold Award for 2010-11.  The aim of the Gold Award is to reward outstanding quality, exceptional comfort and hospitality in the serviced sector in Wales.  The award also recognises businesses that have been successful in a Mystery Shopper exercise to test their customer interaction skills and those that have been able to demonstrate a high commitment and on-going development to improve their business for guests with disabilities.

Four guest houses in Carmarthenshire received the Gold Award; three of which are in the Carmarthen East & Dinefwr constituency.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas added:

“I send my warmest congratulations to the three guest houses in my constituency for their first class award and for the way in which they have exceeded customer expectation.  This is a testament to their hard work and demonstrates that Carmarthenshire is playing its part in raising the quality of tourism in Wales.

“It is a shame however that none of our county’s hotels made the Gold Award list.  I believe we need to attract a top class hotel in Carmarthenshire with conference and banqueting facilities to pull in corporate business into the county.

“I look forward to seeing more of Carmarthenshire’s guest houses receiving the Gold Award next year”.
