Labour government needs to come clean on plans for council

Open and transparent debate needed on future of local government

Plaid Cymru local government spokesperson Rhodri Glyn Thomas has called on the Labour government to come clean on its plans for Welsh councils.  The Plaid Cymru AM for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr has criticised the Welsh government by creating a climate of confusion and said that an open and transparent debate on the future of local government needs to be held immediately in light of deepening tensions between local and national government in Wales.

Plaid Cymru local government spokesperson Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:

“The Labour government must come clean on its plans for councils in Wales as a matter of urgency.  Tensions between local and national government are clearly rising and an open and transparent debate on the future can be the only way forward.  The Minister’s current approach of megaphone diplomacy and drip feeding change is not appropriate or sustainable.  Labour needs to stop engaging in rhetoric and instead to move forwards through constructive co-operation with councils.  We need to reach a position where our local and national government can work together on the vital issues facing our councils and the hugely important services that they provide.”
