Constructive cooperation not megaphone diplomacy needed from national and local government

Plaid Cymru comment on increasing tensions between Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire council

As tensions rise between the Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire County Council following two critical inspection reports, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson for Local Government, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM, has called for calm and cooperation between the two parties, issuing the following statement:

“This is not the kind of relationship we want to see between local and national government. There are a number of serious issues which need urgent attention and the Council has the responsibility to address these immediately.

“I am concerned by the increasing way in which the new Labour Welsh Government is engaging in rhetoric and megaphone diplomacy rather than more constructive cooperation. More worrying still is the feeling that some of these actions could be politically motivated ahead of next may’s election.

“Shouting through the media is not productive and will not help improve children’s services in the county. Plaid Cymru calls on the Welsh Government and Pembrokeshire Council to work together calmly before sight is lost of the important issues.”
