AM welcomes rise the Council grit supply
Carmarthen East & Dinefwr Assembly Member Rhodri Glyn Thomas has welcomed the County Council’s move to increase its supply of salt in preparation for the cold weather. The authority is set to see a 26% increase in its supply. This means approximately 9,500 tonnes of salt will be stocked in barns ready to be used and a further 2,500 tonnes on order.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:
“It is fair to say that local authorities across the whole country experienced difficulties last winter in receiving the salt levels they had ordered. During the last cold spell I received many calls from constituents, especially those in more rural communities, whose roads had not seen one grain of salt. A number of my dairy-farming constituents lost a great deal of money during this period as milk wagons could not drive up roads to collect the milk. I’m pleased to see that the local authority has taken on board the representations that I and many others in our communities made following last year’s difficulties and trust we won’t be in the same position again.”
