AM welcomes new welfare and practice rules for Puppy Farming
New rules proposed by the Welsh Assembly Government which would make it easier to identify puppies bought from dog breeders have been welcomed by Carmarthen East & Dinefwr AM Rhodri Glyn Thomas. The proposed regulations would see compulsory micro-chipping of dogs in licensed breeding premises and would place a limit on one person being in charge of a maximum of 20 animals.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said:
“Carmarthenshire is notoriously known for high levels of poor-quality puppy farming and I have brought this issue up with the Rural Affairs Minister on a number of occasions. The fact the Minister has brought forward proposals for legislation to tackle those who have no regard for animal welfare in their attempts to make a quick buck, is a sign that Plaid Cymru in Government is responding effectively to concerns raised by people from all corners of the county and Wales”.
