Motion’s Against Privitisation

The campaign against privatisation is gathering pace.  It is a very serious issue in the county with care workers, unions and residents alike all opposed to the plans.  I was informed recently that residents in the Towy Valley have been moved over to the private sector.  This goes against the Labour-led council’s pledges that privatisation will only occur as a result of natural wastage.  I have recently raised the bellow motion at the Assembly backing the care workers and Unions in their campaign.

Gofal Cartref yn Sir Gaerfyrddin

Mae’r Cynulliad hwn yn nodi â phryder y cynigion gan Gyngor Sir Caerfyrddin i leihau’r ddarpariaeth gyhoeddus o ofal cartref yn Sir Gaerfyrddin, yn cydnabod y gwaith gwych a wneir gan y staff gofal cartref presennol sy’n darparu gwasanaeth ymroddedig; yn gwrthwynebu unrhyw benderfyniad i breifateiddio’r gwasanaeth gofal cartref; yn cefnogi’n llwyr y camau gweithredu ar y cyd a gynigir gan yr undebau llafur y GMB, TGWU ac Unsain gan gynnwys gwrthdystiadau ar 30ain Mawrth yn Rhydaman, 14eg Ebrill yn Llanelli a 28ain Ebrill yng Nghaerfyrddin; yn galw ar y Cyngor i ailfeddwl am ei strategaeth yng nghyd-destun gwrthwynebiad cryf gan weithwyr gofal, Undebau a thrigolion sy’n dibynnu ar y ddarpariaeth gofal cartref.

This Assembly notes with concern proposals by Carmarthenshire County Council to decrease the public provision of homecare in Carmarthenshire, recognise the excellent work undertaken by the current homecare staff who deliver a committed service; opposes any decision to privatise the home care service; fully supports the joint Union action proposed by the GMB, TGWU and Unison including demonstration rallies on March 30 in Ammanford, April 14 in Llanelli and April 28 in Carmarthen; calls on the Council to rethink its strategy in light of the strong opposition from Care workers, Unisons and residents reliant on the home care provision.
